How it All Began

In 1961, Scott Robinson decided to open the first automobile dealership on Hawthorne Blvd. The name of the store was Scott Robinson Pontiac. Scott Robinson was a simple man whose main goal in life was to provide for his family. Scott had worked for General Motors since the late 1940's and found an opportunity to relocate his family to the South Bay . Torrance was a rapidly growing city in the early 1960's and Hawthorne Blvd. was ready for development.

Scott and his son Don opened their doors with just 15 employees. Don Robinson learned from his father that a strong work ethic, positive attitude and treating employees and customers with respect would result in a successful business. That proved to be true. Today our company employs over 200 people between 2 locations. Most of the management staff has worked for the Robinson family for over 20 years. We are proud to still have an employee by the name of "Big John" who has been with us since the very first day.

American Honda Enters the Market

In 1970 American Honda Motor Company began to introduce their automobiles to the West Coast U.S. market. It was a time of high gasoline prices and predominantly 8 cylinder engines. Honda was offering an economical engine with high gas mileage at a cost of about $1,400.00. Don had owned and ridden Honda motorcycles and knew they had a reputation for quality and reliability.

When Scott and Don were offered the opportunity to retail Honda automobiles they enthusiastically agreed. For the next 8 years Pontiacs and Hondas were available on the corner of Hawthorne and Del Amo Blvds. Due to the overwhelming success of Honda the Pontiac franchise was dropped in 1978. Scott Robinson Honda would now take center stage as the auto industry began to transform.

Jeff Robinson Joins the Team

Following the example set by his father and grandfather, Jeff Robinson joined the dealership team in 1988. Jeff had graduated from U.S.C. with a degree in business/entrepreneurship. Jeff's sister, Stacey, graduated from U.S.C. as well with a degree in communications and began working for Scott Robinson Honda in 1990. Today, Jeff is the Vice President of the company while Stacey enjoys the role of being a full time Mommy. 

Giving Back to the Community

Don and Jeff both believe in giving something back to the community. Scott Robinson Honda sponsors numerous charity events that benefit the South Bay community. Local charities such as the Switzer Center, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, South Bay Police & Fire Memorial Fund and the SCROC Foundation are just a few of the benefactors of the dealership's support. We also sponsor Little League teams and many other youth sports teams throughout our community.

Satellite Honda Service Center Opens on Crenshaw Boulevard

In 1992, Scott Robinson Honda opened an innovative Honda Service Center located on Crenshaw Blvd. in Torrance . This unique state of the art facility offers Service, Parts and Collision Repairs only. It was an unusual concept to have a facility of this type that did not offer automobiles for sale. The Honda Service Center was the second one of its kind to open for business. Today, there are only 9 of these service centers nationwide.

Minutes from American Honda Corporate Headquarters

Both Don and Jeff agree that it has been very positive to have American Honda's Corporate Headquarters nearby, as we are often able to host tours of our dealership to Honda personnel from home and abroad. Honda is one of the pioneers to manufacture automobiles with alternative fueled engines like natural gas. Scott Robinson Honda is an industry leader in retailing these types of cars. In contrast, come in and see one of the first Honda 600's that we sold in 1970. It was traded into us by a satisfied customer who then purchased a new Civic. 

We are looking forward to the new products that Honda will introduce to the market in the coming years. When asked how he felt about Scott Robinson Honda, Jeff Robinson said it best "It is a blessing to live and work in the South Bay . Good people, great weather, there are not many places like it. Our goal is to have the finest run Honda dealership in the country."
